PROGRAM: This Seminar will cover the key provisions of the Illinois Mental Health Code, from detention, evaluation, and trial. Special attention will be paid to the interaction of mental health proceedings with guardianship, power of attorney, and juvenile proceedings.

• Admission to a mental health facility- judicial admission and admission by certificate;
• Hearings under the Mental Health Code and procedures for involuntary medication;
• Powers and limitations of guardianship in mental health proceedings;
• Issues involving Power of Attorney for Health Care and Declaration for Mental Health Treatment;
• Mental health law’s importance to and impact on other areas of legal practice;
• Realities of outpatient treatment and long-term success.

Participants will receive two (2) hours of Continuing Legal Education Credit. Participation is limited to twenty (20) persons.

* Julia Dimoff is a licensed attorney who began her career as mental health social worker. After law school, she worked as a legal analyst in both non-profit and governmental arenas focusing on health law, regulation, and policy. Currently, Ms. Dimoff works as an Assistant State’s Attorney, and is dually assigned to the office’s Mental Health Unit and the Transactions & Health Care Unit.
