RFP: CBF Special Project Grants – Deadline is August 24, 2012  

The Chicago Bar Foundation (CBF) currently is accepting proposals for new Special Project Grants. Through its Special Project grant cycle, the CBF makes project-based grants to support prospective and existing innovative projects that make the justice system more user-friendly and accessible for low-income and disadvantaged Chicagoans. In FY13, the CBF will fund three to four new projects that are not presently receiving a Special Project grant from the CBF. The minimum grant award will be $25,000 per year for two years. 

Among other eligibility requirements, the proposed project must: (1) increase access to justice for a significant number of low-income and disadvantaged people in Cook County; (2) be overseen by a licensed attorney or by an individual who has been accredited by a government agency to represent clients in a specific forum, such as a Board of Immigration Appeals full accredited representative; and (3) fall under one or both of the following categories:

• Court-based Project/Help Desk: The court-based advice or help desk assists people without lawyers with their legal problems.
• Pro Bono Project: The project engages a significant number of pro bono or volunteer attorneys in providing services to clients and/or the courts.
 
To apply for a Special Project grant, please complete the Letter of Inquiry form and electronically submit the form and required attachments to the CBF. The Special Project Grant Guidelines and Letter of Inquiry form are attached (and also available at http://www.chicagobarfoundation.org/apply-for-a-cbf-grant/-special-project-grant-application). Please refer to the Guidelines for additional information regarding project eligibility and the application process. 

The deadline to submit the Letter of Inquiry form is Friday, August 24, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

Existing Special Project grantees are not required to submit a proposal. In late August, the CBF will send existing grantees a progress report form, which should be submitted to the CBF by Friday, September 21, 2012.
