Many low-income clients who come to legal aid organizations for assistance with such problems as benefits, family law, housing and employment may be servicemembers or veterans. Often the organization will not know that the client is a veteran or servicemember or be aware that such status may present special circumstances for the client. The goal of this program is to provide a very brief introduction for legal aid attorneys as to why they should consider screening new clients as to their military status, some of the laws and issues that are unique to these two groups and some resources that are available to learn more about the law and assistance available in this complex area.
