The Domestic Violence Legal Clinic (DVLC) seeks an Executive Director. DVLC provides legal representation to survivors of domestic violence in the areas of obtaining emergency orders of protection and divorce. DVLC seeks a highly motivated individual with strong legal, leadership and management skills to drive DVLC forward in fulfilling its mission.
DUTIES
- Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff
- Design/update strategic business plan DVLC
- Provide legal services in all aspects of cases and supervise staff attorneys and volunteer attorneys in their administration of cases
- Ensure excellence in delivery of services
- Promote active participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work
- Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with laws and regulations
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field
- Keep the Board fully informed
- Establish working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations
- Publish and communicate program issues, results and needs
- Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
- Be responsible for the recruitment, employment and release of all personnel, including staff and volunteers. Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people
- Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices
- Work with the Board of Directors to set annual goals
- Attorney licensed to practice law in Illinois
- At least 5 years of practice experience, preferably litigation and/or family law practice
- Familiarity and/or experience with working with survivors of domestic violence
- Previous administrative or supervisory experience
- Previous grant writing experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus
