Position Description

Full-Time Position, reports to Legal Director
Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing (LCBH) seeks an attorney with 3-5 years of litigation experience to direct its Pro Bono program. The Pro Bono Coordinator supervises litigation services provided by LCBH through its volunteers and law firms. The Pro Bono Coordinator will conduct trainings and will work collaboratively with the Development department to increase awareness of LCBH and its mission throughout the legal community. The Pro Bono Coordinator interacts with a variety of stakeholders including law firms, attorney volunteers, legal interns, clients, and the general public.

General Duties
• Volunteer recruitment through outreach to law firms
• Build and maintain relationships with law firm pro bono programs
• Train new attorney volunteers and interns
• Co-counsel/supervise volunteer attorney cases, attend court most mornings
• Participate in client acceptance meetings
• Develop new pro bono projects with all LCBH legal programs and interact with other program staff to implement pro bono projects
• Develop and direct publicity for the pro bono program
• Conduct outreach to other legal providers, bar associations, and non-profits in the community
• Coordinate Intern program through law schools and PILI
• Conduct trainings on landlord/tenant law, foreclosure and fair housing to various stakeholders
• Maintain volunteer reporting requirements
• Plan and implement training events for volunteers and interns
• Participate in fundraising efforts
• Publish a monthly volunteer newsletter

 

Position Requirements

• Must be an attorney licensed in Illinois
• 3-5 years legal experience, litigation experience a plus
• Excellent verbal and written skills
• A commitment to social justice
• The ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with lawyers and clients from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds
