Earlier this month Illinois Legal Aid Online published two new automated pleading sets for legal aid and pro bono attorneys representing indigent clients in certain consumer law cases. The Hospital Bill Collection Defense packet is for use when a non-profit hospital is the plaintiff. Documents that can be prepared include an answer, interrogatories, and a request to produce documents. The Vehicle Repossession Deficiency Suit Defense packet can be used when someone is being sued for a deficiency after their car was repossessed. The documents generated include an answer, affirmative defenses, counterclaims, interrogatories and a request to produce documents. These automated documents are for use statewide, and can be accessed by logging into www.IllinoisProBono.org, clicking on the "Legal Resources" tab, and selecting "Automated Documents/HotDocs". Special thanks to Alan Alop of Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago for his help in developing these automated documents. If you have questions about these or other automated documents on ILAO's websites, please contact Mary Neal, Automated Documents Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Since Septermber Illinois Legal Aid Online's Mick Domagala has been working with the three largest legal aid programs in Illinois to implement a new web-based case management system, Legal Server. As the Project Coordinator, Mick is managing every step of the project, from initial training of the project teams through data migration and launch of the new software in the spring of 2009 at Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, and Prairie State Legal Services. The new systems will provide these programs with state of art technology, which will make many everyday tasks much easier and more efficient, including client intake, referral to pro bono attorneys, and time keeping. ILAO will integrate our websites into the new systems so attorneys can directly access online practice support resources within the case managment system. ILAO will also be leading a project to integrate automated documents, which will allow attorneys to easily prepare legal documents using client data stored in the case management system. If you have questions about this project please contact Mick Domagala at email@example.com.
